Trekking in the high Andes Mendoza – Argentina
Trekking to Vallecitos La Cadenita
In this trekking tour we will ascend high altitude hills in the Andes, where we will find an amazing view of Valle de Potrerillos and Cordon del Plata.
The trip from Mendoza city in our minivans takes 2 hs. We will arrive to Vallecitos located at 2900 meters above sea level.
Our trek starts right here towards Lomas Blancas Hill, 3650 mts., this is a rather easy ascension, through a well defined path. From the top we will be able to see guanacos, condors, El Salto Village and the highest hill of this area: El Plata (6300 m)
Then, we will go on to reach our next peak: Cerro Estudiante(3800m) where we will take a break to go on to Cerro Caucaso (3850 m) and Cerro Iluso (3950). This way we will have crowned four hills in the mountain range of Cordon del Plata in just one day.
We will go down Morenas Coloradas hill where we will see the ski centre Vallecitos where our minivan will be waiting for us to take us to Mendoza city in the afternoon.

Trekking in Cerro PENITENTES
Penitentes is a ski centre, located at 174 km from Mendoza city, in the Andes very near the Chilean border. It has 28 runs for beginners, advanced and expert skiers. Campo Base has an international hostel right in the ski centre.
This hill is part of the main mountain range of the Andes, and it is very near Penitentes Village. The rout we will follow to its summit has no technical difficulties. Because of its unique position and altitude we can observe the south wall of the Aconcagua, Volcan Tupungato and many of the most important mountains in this area.
SCHEDULE
Day 1:
Departure from Mendoza to Penitentes, lunch upon arrival in our hostel and then we will start our trek to Puente del Inca, it is a natural bridge with hot sparkling waters. We will find in our walk the Andes climbers cemetery. We will go back to the hostel where we will have dinner and a relaxing sleep.
Day 2:
After breakfast we will trek through Quebrada de Vargas to the base camp of Cerro Penitentes (3200 m) where we will have a special lunch for high altitude. Later we will go back to the hostel where we will recover strengths with a hot tea and later on we will have dinner to go to bed.
Day 3:
after breakfast we will start our trip back to Mendoza city.
